The Strum Shop is a full line acoustic musical instrument shop, specializing in ukuleles, guitars, banjos, mandolins, autoharps & dulcimers. We also carry a variety of other curious instruments that you should visit the store to see for yourself.
The Strum Shop was opened by Stu Herreid and Dan Elliott in May of 2012 once they recognized the need for someone to support the rapidly growing community of ukulele players in the greater Sacramento area. Uke University, a club founded by Stu in 2010 had grown to well over 300 members in just two years and now boasts over 600 members. The bluegrass folks have also found a home here at The Strum Shop. Members of the Sacramento chapter of the “California Bluegrass Association” get together on the fourth Thursday of each month for a jam. Acoustic music of all styles really seems to have become the escape of choice in our heavily digitally saturated society. Here at The Strum Shop, we are more than happy to oblige.
We carry classical, acoustic, and resonator guitars as well as 5-String and Tenor Banjo’s, and mandolins.
We have a full time teaching staff that offer private lessons every day of the week and group lessons on various days throughout the week. We also have a full time repair technician and a full time outside luthier.
We have also become an “Event Center” here at The Strum Shop, hosting workshops, classes, concerts, and seminars. We do everything from Hawaiian to Folk, Bluegrass to Irish, ukuleles, guitars, banjo, you name it, we probably have done it. “Community” is the word most often associated with The Strum Shop, as we are extremely community minded. In fact, we built the entire store around that concept, with all of our displays being on wheels, and able to move out of the way and make our store an auditorium for all the events!
We are a hands-on shop and encourage you to grab an instrument off the wall and play! See you soon.
